True Confessions

I don't wash my hair everyday. I don't. I can't help it - it isn't good for my hair and let's face it, if I have straightened my hair - I'm going to milk it for all it is worth. When we went to China I didn't wash it the whole time I was there . . . and it looked fantastic (which is why I didn't feel the need to wash it). I have admitted this to a few people before and the response has ranged from "that's disgusting" to "huh." So I was relieved to see this article in the NY Times. Apparently I am a trendsetter.

I think this quote from that article says it all: “These people have just gotten used to the fact that their hair is greasy and dirty, so they don’t notice anymore.”

Oh I am on this train! I just confessed to KTC that I hadn't washed my hair in days, maybe that is where she got the idea for the post! I want to get into this dry shampoo business. But after a while it does start to smell especially if you visit a Columbian restaurant.

Do you people not workout? I am like a sweaty mess after I run and I cannot imagine not washing my hair. Doesn't it start to smell? And that grease transfers from your hair to your pillow every night, and then to your face. Huh. I don't think I could do it. Sometimes I skip a day, but I tend to be greasy (and not because I was it every day...I tried for a while, it's just that way). I know it's not the same for my curly haired friends, but I couldn't do it.

As long as Greg doesn't think it smells, it seems like it wouldn't be that big of a deal.

I'm sure when I go to Africa, I won't be washing mine either.

Do you love that my first comment on your blog is so rude??? You know I'm nice, right?

Chloe - I work out but for some insane reason - my hair doesn't get oily from it - and trust me I sweat. A lot. It's weird. And Greg has never said it smells - but then again, he doesn't really have a sensitive sniffer (I do).

I'm flabbergasted. I can't think of any other way to describe my reaction to that article. I have always been impressed by/jealous of people who could get away with not washing their hair for several days, and but I had no idea it was the secret to shiny, Pantene-pro V-like locks. Fascinating. And I agree with Shana -- point me to the dry shampoo stuff! I'm in.

I have always done every other day, but since I became a stay at home mom, I feel justified in stretching it to every third day at times - which has not been without some negative side effects. Last week I went to a Drs. appt and when the Dr. came in the room he said, "Hm, it smells like onions in here." Coincidentally I had cooked with onions the night before........

Sara - let's face it - I'm not a stay at home and I stretch it out for months at a time. Well - not that much but onions? At least it wasn't garlic.

I only wash my hair once a week, then again I have a fro everytime I wash it, until I spend 2 hours straightening it. Not to mention, if I decide to let my hair dry naturally it takes 24+ hours. I'm all for lazy shampooing!

Ok, my first post... I secretly never quite understood why people freaked out so much they found a hair in their food... UNTIL NOW!
