We Needed A Goal

KT has hatched an ingenius plan to trick us into working out. Normally we don't have a problem working out because we both really enjoy it. KT does her insane iTrain routines, and I enjoy the more mainstream iron/cardio stuff and we are generally very active people. However, we have been in a bit of a slump which can be summed up by busy schedules (excuses) and a bit of laziness (i.e. we like to sleep rather than get up at 5:30). So we needed a little shot in the arm.

Enter Kris Tina with the crazy idea. I always get a little nervous when she starts a sentence with "I've been thinking . . . " but I am happy with this thought. She asked me if I would like to run a half marathon in the spring. Of course I rejected this immediately as crazy talk and I responded by asking her why we don't just join the Olympic team while we are at it. But she persisted in wearing me down and I finally agreed (so long as we try out for the 2008 Olympic team). The good thing is that it has launched us back into the gym. We are now on a running schedule and I ran what was probably my longest continuous run ever on Saturday: 4 miles. I guess that really isn't all that far, but I am slowly thinking that maybe I CAN do this race. Of course, Kompetitive Krissi (as she is known at home) is absolutely spanking me on running time, but the training has only begun and my shipment of Barry Bondo Juice is arriving this week.

Even if we place last in this race, at least it has given up motivation to go to the gym and it has already made me less winded after climbing all those subway stairs every morning.

Ross--I am going to recommned that you use bandaids and vaseline to prevent nipple chaffing. You know how serious that can be.

Oh I'm on it. I saw how that afflicted Andy and I don't want that to happen to me. I'm also on the lookout for official running shorty shorts.

And you know you should carbo load on fettuccine, right?

Ross, I will do the half marathon, too. And while you and Kitty are distracted by your carbo loading I'm going to take a cab to the finish line.
