Keepin' it real - quarterly check-in (6-13)

So starting tomorrow - I should be halfway through my 13's in 2013. This blog is keeping me honest and so here goes - I'm not even remotely halfway through on some of my things. Here goes:

13 - 13's: Well I've done three 13 mile runs so far - and the first one wasn't until May 25th. So there is hope that I can still get this one accomplished.

13 visits to the Temple: Um - I've been twice this year. But there is hope and this past week I actually woke up early (what in the world?) and went before work. I think I can do this - but I need to get serious.

13 house projects: We done two - with Greg set to start his MBA program the end of July I'm not sure this is actually going to get accomplished. Especially since this past month he's been busy finishing up some of the pre-requisite classes before real school starts. I might have to hire Fernando and or give it up.

13 service projects: I've identified 4 true service events that I've done. I need to get going on this. I plan on just making some treats and taking them over to neighbors. Because hey - who doesn't want a treat?

13 hikes: Fail. We've only done 1 so far. I'm not sure this is going to happen.

13 family bike rides: We've done 1 - and Henry cried the whole time - so we'll see what our plan is on this one. Maybe I should start counting it if we take him out with us in the jogging stroller.

13 couple dates and/or parties: We've had four. So yes, I'm behind on this one too.

13 friend outings/reconnections: I kind of can't believe how awesome this one is. This year I've actually been able to see (SEE! Not just text, not just email, not just "like" one of their status's on facebook) six friends that I haven't seen in years. This has been my favorite thing so far. My only regret is that I haven't taken pictures of this just because it's been so great. Karyn, Mackenna, Mo and Josh - what a delight to see you all. I have LOVED visiting and catching up. Who's going to be next? I'm so excited to find out.

4 sets of 13 books to read: Whoa - this one I'm actually ahead of schedule - I've read 38 books so far this year. Which explains this:

13 crafts/projects completed: ZERO/Zilch/Nada. I've been too busy reading. But Lily and I have some things in place so I'm hopeful - it also means that there will need to be more books on tape and less actual reading (and yes Toddcat, it still counts to read a book if you listen to it while doing other things).

13 blog posts a month: Right on schedule. Sure, I had to do six blog posts in the past three days to make sure I'm up to date - but done.

2013 - begins - finally (2-1)

Greg and I have decided to pretend that January never happened. January? What January? And since there is no record of anything happening on the blog - it's pretty easy to just wipe that month off the books and move on. So . . moving on.

Drumroll please . . . introducing . . . our 2013 goals!

I loved, loved, loved tracking my goals last year and then reporting them (as if the readership on this blog were investors looking for a quarterly/weekly report). I've thought a lot about this struggling little blog of ours and what it's for and really - it's for us. So we're going to keep going on with it -even if blogs are passe. Let's face it - I love the instant gratification from clever quips on facebook or instagram (@kittyesquire - see I can't stop myself!) but really - the blog can be turned into a book that makes it seem like we have some sort of family history going - and we like it. So we're going to make it happen.

So . . . we have thought long and hard about what to do for 2013. I love setting goals and making resolutions. Only because it is so important to feel like I'm moving forward, improving things, changing, growing - even if, in reality, we are kind of standing still. We've decided to work with 13 and the term "finish" - there are just a ton of things that we need to simply "finish".  Anyway - here goes:

Run 13 - 13's in 2013 (these don't all have to be "official" races or anything)
Go to the temple 13 times (at least - I'm not limiting myself to these things but 13 is a good hard number)
Read at least 13 x 4 books (ha! that makes 52)
Accomplish 13 projects around the house
Perform 13 acts of service (sincere service)
Finish 13 craft projects (holy cannoli I have a lot of crap crafts around the house that need to be finished!)
13 blog posts a month (yep, that's right - be prepared for pictures of Henry, Henry, and more Henry)
Lose 13 lb's (and not the same ones over and over and over)
Go hiking/biking at least 13 times

Oy vey - this looks overwhelming. I guess it kind of is. But really we have a google spreadsheet to help us track it - so um we're off. Sure, we are a little behind seeing that January didn't even happen - but we're on it. And really - if we don't reach all our goals - that's okay - we just don't want to be here in February 2014 saying, "um what did we do last year?"

Happy March!

I don't know how my parents did it but they instilled in each one of their children an almost inherently unhealthy happiness when it comes to birthdays. My parents made us feel so special that with it now being March - I'm thrilled at the prospect of turning 26 (again) this month. So to celebrate - I thought I would make a list of 24 things I would like to accomplish by March 24th. Here goes:

1) Finish memorizing "The Living Christ"
2) Be able to do at least 1 unassisted pull-up (this might be a pipe dream)
3) Start taking piano lessons
4) Sign up for a spring BY mountain biking class
5) Catch up with my baby gifts - I have about 4 baby gifts that I need to make and get sent out
6) Print another bestseller (blog book 2008)
7) Print another bestseller (blog book 2009)
8) Learn how to convert vhs tapes to dvd's
9) Organize 100 itunes songs on the mac
10) Organize my messy jewelry (it's hard to treat it really well when it is purchased at forever 21)
11) Clean out [my half] of the closet
12) Finish two knitted oprah gifts (those winners - you know what I'm talking about)
13) Plan a vacation for 2011
14) Paint the garage wall
15) Buy a new duvet cover + sheets (some that have - *gasp* color!)
16) Read/listen to all of the apostle's talks before April conference
17) Get me a Utah driver's license (my Illinois one expires this month so I guess I better)
18) Plan out the garden planting
19) Attend the temple three times
20) Get a sponsor to help me with all my bad habits
21) Organize garage
22) Hardwood floor in family room
23) Learn how to cook something that I don't normally cook (roasted vegetables don't count)
24) Read "The 4 Pillars of the Earth"

Goodness - with all of this - I don't have time to blog.
