reading round-up (4-1)

I attended a devotional last week where I was reminded of this quote from President Hinckley, "Read. Read. Read. Read the word of God in sacred books of scripture. Read from the great literature of the ages. Read what is being said in our day and time and what will be said in the future."

Hearing this was like a big pat on the back for me - good job, Kitty - way to read. I've read 19 books (so far) this year. Not all of them have been winners - but I've definitely learned a lot.

Here's my reading list from March:

The best book of the month? Hands down - "The Story of Stuff" by Annie Leonard. I am hosting a conference next week and yesterday I purchased a bunch of wasteful lanyards and plastic packets for names and quite honestly - I felt sick to my stomach. I still do. What a waste. I need and want to do better. It's a slow process - but I'm going to improve.

I didn't love "Same Kind of Different As Me" nor did I love "I am Nujood" but I am a better person for having read them both.

As for Free-Range Kids - this was a great book - easy to read and something that I think was helpful to be reminded of - like "it's okay to let Henry roll around and get dirty and maybe walk to Walker's" (except he still isn't walking - no, I'm not worried, well maybe a little bit).

As for the Bomb book - I'm finishing up reading all of the Newbery award winner books for 2012 - I'll be posting that review later (I have to stock-pile my blog posts - otherwise - how on earth am I going to get 13 post  a month)?

As much as it sickens me to say it, you may be rubbing off on me. In the last 2.5 weeks I've read 5+1/3 books. One was your suggestion of Let's Pretend This Never Happened. It's loaded full of hilarious (and often weird) stories from the author's own life. In fact, I was literally laughing out loud while reading it in airports....literally!

Oh Toddcat - see reading is better than television. Only slightly better - but better.

What's television?
