reading round-up (2-2)

So I kind of knocked it out of the park when it comes to my reading goal for January. I know, I thought we were pretending like January never happened  . . .  unless it comes to reading books. And then we count it as happening. It happened. I read seven books this past month. SEVEN. Sure, some of them were not as intellectually challenging/stimulating as others. But oh goodness golly - some were amazing.

My favorite for the month? Half the Sky. I think I need to purchase this book - it is life changing and yet it is so easy to forget. I don't want to forget. I want to make a difference. READ THIS BOOK. But be prepared for difficult information and difficult emotions that accompany this new knowledge.

For fun? Read "I Feel Bad About My Neck" - oh that Nora Ephron - she's funny.

Between the two parenting books I read (Love and Logic and Bringing Up Bebe) - go with Love and Logic. In fact, I finished this book and I asked/told Greg that I needed him to read it because I'm all in - I want to us to be able to parent like this.

Between the two young adult books I read (Jefferson's Sons and Princess Academy) - Jefferson's Sons is great - timely and interesting and really makes you think about how our Founding Fathers can say "All Men are Created Equal" and yet at the same time keep slaves - and not only that father children with these slaves. Interesting. Princess Academy? dumb dumb dumb. How was this a Newbery Honor book? Ugh.

Some people have asked me - "when do you read?" Well, I'll tell you this - Henry goes to bed and I have been a reading fool for the whole month of January. I'm so behind on all my hulu shows - I don't think I'll ever catch up. And I'm okay with that.

P.S. I love reading my friend's reviews of books on GoodReads - so I am posting full reviews of all 2013 books there. It's also a great tracking tool

  1. Remind me that I want to talk to you about Love and Logic. That idea is a HUGE classroom management idea.
