I'm continuing on in my quest to read at least 52 books this year. Here's my May report:
The Happiness Project - Gretchen Ruben - **
The Paris Wife - Paula McLain - **1/2
Seriously . . . I'm Kidding - Ellen DeGeneres - TURKEY
Dead End in Norvelt - Jack Gantos - **
Trouble - Gary D. Schmidt - ***
No real surprise that this month the best book was another book by Gary D. Schmidt, Trouble. I'm starting to develop a real crush on him as an author. So great. The best quote - "Trouble is in this world but so is Grace." A great story by a great storyteller.
I enjoyed "The Paris Wife" - it's all about Ernest Hemingway and his first wife, Hadley - living in Paris. It reminded me of the time in the movie "Midnight in Paris" - kind of fun to see/read about. There were times where it got a little boring but not knowing anything about Ernest and his first wife, it was always a bit of a surprise. Ernest was a pretty horrible man to be married to.
Oh that Ellen DeGeneres book - HORRIBLE. That's right - my first Turkey of the year. Lame. Dumb. And just plain silly. But not silly funny - silly as in stupid.
Dead End in Norvelt - I had high. High. HIGH expectations for this book since it beat out "Okay For Now" for the Newbery Award - let me just say - Okay is the real winner. Dead End in Norvelt doesn't translate to the adult audience.
Curveball - just okay.
The Happiness Project - I found myself amazed at how this woman was able to resolve to do so much everyday and then did it. I didn't love it but I did walk away with one thing - that is BE Kris Tina. It was nice to be reminded that sometimes I just need to accept the fact that sometimes I love the idea of doing something more than actually doing it. For example, sometimes I really would just rather clean my house than go out clubbing . . . and that's okay.
25 books down . . 27 to go.

I'm a nerd, but I really love these reading posts of yours. I fell off my reading bandwagon (Survivor, Parks and Rec and a few others won out) but with all the season finales under my belt now, I'm ready to get back in the game. I'm just using your posts to pick the really good ones. :)
I was interested in the Ellen book but now I know I don't have to pick it up at Costco. I think you are doing great on your reading list. You always choose challenging goals, I'm proud of you.
