#5

Today I'm grateful for grandparents. In particular, Grandma Staker. This week she went downhill - fast - and then . . . just last night . . . it was over. I kind of couldn't have asked for a better way to say goodbye. I got to have her all to myself for at least an hour. She was tired - but lucid and strong. She chatted and corrected me when I got things wrong and cringed when I told her one of the many names on our potential baby name list (apparently she had an ornery uncle by that name and so there you go - ruined).

When I left she held my face with her soft hands and simply told me that she loved me and that she loved my baby. I will always treasure that memory.

I know that all of her bajillion grandkids feel like we were her favorite. I miss her already.

I love the gift grandparents have of being able to make us feel that way. Like we are all that matters. I am so sorry about this. I am so grateful you got to have that experience though. So grateful. You will be able to reflect on her soft touch and your conversation for the rest of your life.

Aren't grandparents the best? We lost both of mine within the last two years and I miss them both so much. I do love thinking, though, that they're taking care of my little people before I meet them. What a wonderful thing that you could spend time with her so close to her passing. Love to you!

Do you ever listen to country music? I've been on a streak lately. You should look up the title "If Heaven Wasn't So Far Away" by Justin Moore.

I wish my grandma could cook up a batch of her famous donuts for my two (almost 3) boys. Good thing they don't know what on earth they are missing! I am salivating just thinking of it....

I'm sorry for your loss. What a blessing to have that memory of being with her. I would guess that she's enjoying some time with her grandbaby boy before he comes down.
