Things to say or not say to a preggo lady(?)

1) I just finished reading a student's email and he closed with, "You are a beautiful, pregnant woman." While, I have no doubt that this is true (although I continue to refuse to look in anything remotely resembling a full-length mirror) I still feel awkward about the whole thing.

2) "Oh wow Professor Carlston - you look tired!"

That's all I can think of. So really - it's nothing bad I'm just feeling awkward about everything especially #1. I mean it was nice - don't get me wrong - just odd.

P.S. Does it ruin the "SURPRISE!" of Halloween to announce that I want to go as Hester Prynne and make Greg dress up as the Reverand Dimmesdale? Who wants to make me a ridiculous, satin-y and sequin-y letter
"A"?

can't help with the dress. I don't sew. But I am looking forward to a picture. :)

I still haven't responded because I can't believe a male student would find that ok to say to you. It IS true...and VERY flattering, but super weird. Is it the same one that isn't completing his assignments?

Emilzalmo - it's a totally totally totally different student. I feel so awkward - I haven't been able to email him back.

Um...is it weird that I actually have a Hester Prynne costume? Regardless, it's packed in storage, I think.

Clearly that student is willing to do anything for an A.

I also think it's inappropriate for acquaintances to touch your pregnant belly. I have a friend who would say, "My boobs are growing, too. Would you like to touch them?" -Emily

Dear Hester. The "A" is a fantastic idea. Part of me really really wants to have my baby boy on Halloween so we can have great parties while he grows up.

Katie and I just might steal that. It may be better than our White Trash Shotgun Wedding.
