More items of biz-ness

1) Allegedly work has been planning on re-carpeting my office for the past week. Each morning I walk in and realize - nope - not yet. I've been sitting in packed up boxes and junkety junk for the past week. It does not make for a happy, healthful, productive work environment.

2) A couple of months ago I was perusing the Broadway Across America website and purchased some tickets to go and see "Young Frankenstein" (lame but a great tap dance number). Anyway - I looked and realized that Les Mis tickets were also on sale. Sweet! There were only a few available - I couldn't believe my luck. The other night, however, I was looking at them and realized that probably the only reason I was able to get tickets was because they were for the Thursday matinee. Whoops. Thank goodness it's spring/summer. I'll be leaving early today.

3) Speaking of Les Mis - Greg and I have had a long-standing argument. He swears that Phantom of the Opera is better than Les Mis. I think he is smoking something. Duh. Les Mis is epic and the story and the music - Phantom is just a little ridiculous and over the top and too showy. Today I plan on settling this argument by proving to him that Les Mis is a bajillion times better than Phantom.

4) We watched the Bachelorette last night. Holy awesome. We've got a guy in a mask (but I really believe him - he must be so ridiculously handsome that he wants to make sure that she loves him for him instead of his amazing good looks that apparently are going to make everyone swoon), we had a lush (a liquor distributor that gets wasted in two hours? - thank goodness Ashley showed everyone she was serious and that this dating show is REAL - thus he needed to be escorted from the soiree), and then we've got Bentley from SLC. Oh goodness - I need to figure out what this "family fun center" is that he owns in SLC and make sure to never go there.

5) We continue to get ready for the Pioneer Trek that is happening next week. How are we getting ready? Well, we talked about it last night, that's a start.

6) Oooooh and one more thing. Abby and I have decided to resurrect "The Finer Things" Club. We've already started on our first book (or at least I've started reading it), "A Town Like Alice". Anyone interested in re-upping their culture? (Todd we will NOT be reading any ridiculous washed up tv stars biographies - just fyi).

Les Mis > Phantom

hooray for finer things. Les Mis! And don't you have to wear crazy skirts and long sleeves on trek? You better get crackin'

Oh, no question. Les Miserables is far superior to Phantom. As far as story line goes, they aren't even in the same league. Greg will totally change his mind when he sees the cool stage. I will never forget Javert jumping off the bridge. Great show! AS was the Bach. I forgot to save my tivo and had people here watching with us, minus the first 40 minutes. WHAT!? I'm lucky they didn't kill me.

Trek is next week? Wow. I hope you guys love it as much as I think you will. I wish we wre going, I really do.

A Town Like Alice...I read that once. I remember liking it, though the plot completely escapes me right now.

Have FUN at your show today! That is so awesome!

Uh, easy, easy choice. Phantom sucks. Everyone knows that. Les Mis could beat phantom with both hands tied behind it's back and both eyes gouged out with a broach, Greek tragedy style.

I consider myself an avid "theater go-er" and, though I like both plays for different reasons, Les Mis is in a league far above Phantom...so much more substance, no? Sorry, Greg! That being said, however, I have to say that "A Tale of Two Cities" is the best I've seen...so much like Les Mis in many ways.

Oh Rachel - I LOVE A Tale of Two Cities - to me it is a bit of a hidden gem.

How do you diss a silly opera about a guy who insists on wearing a silly mask and then openly gush over a dating show about a guy who insists on wearing a silly mask?

First of all, you don't have to be so judgy about best selling autobiographical books that taught you so much about life, love, and drug addiction. I am a founding member of The Finer Things and I'll be making my own recommendations that I know will change people's lives.

Of course Ross loves Phantom, despite Lindy's brutal review. He is himself exactly as you describe the show: over the top and showy.

Thank you Steve. Don't get me wrong, I think Les Miz is great, I just happen to prefer the Phantom as a show. But you know what is even better than both of those? Evita. That's right, Evita.
