back to blogging(?)

I admit it - lately the cat has my tongue because apparently, I just don't have that much to say. So instead, I've decided to take an informative approach to my blog post today.

We got lucky and before all the rain hit we managed to fill some of our planters. Thanks to Better Homes & Garden (and the magazine subscription that my mom got for free and had sent to me . . . although I no longer get it so if you get that offer again mom - send it my way) I learned something very important about planters. To make planters be pretty/visually interesting - you need three things:

1) Thriller
2) Spiller
3) Filler

So there you go - a horticultural lesson for the day. Other items of note . . .

1) I got a bee in my bonnet and tried to watch the mini-series "Roots" starring Lavar Burton of Reading Rainbow fame. I liked it - but goodness I just heard over and over and over the words "Kunte Kinte". The library needs it back - I haven't finished it but I'm going to move on.
2) We re-watched  "Stranger Than Fiction" - I forgot how much I liked that movie. Greg ironed approximately 720 of his shirts while watching it. I mopped the floor and cleaned out the fridge (it needed it).
3) While we were out red rock relaying it up the missionaries mowed our front and back lawns. Bless them. But don't fret, lest you think we are spoiled - they left all the weeding for us - and the smell of their chicken is still the ultimate in disgusting.
4) I found a used, digital piano online. It's pretty nice and let's face it - I'm no concert pianist but I just miss playing . . . so we purchased it. If only we could figure out how to move it to our house. With all the rain I don't relish the idea of using Greg's parents truck. Carrie - why don't you drive down to my house with your Armada and we'll load it in the back? Emilazmo - we'd ask to borrow your swaggin' wagon but I don't want Greg to get too attached to driving a minivan.
5) I love to read my niece's writing. Check it.
6) My sister somehow managed to get the Fablehaven guy to come and speak at her writing camp - I think she's hitting the big time . . . but I still haven't read any of those books.
7) Every summer that same sister has her kids attend "Finlinson State". Greg and I really, really, really wish she would call it Finlinson University instead. You figure it out. It would just be awesome.

I love the container gardening lesson. I just planted some urns on my front porch and I've got the thriller and filler, but I need some spiller. If anyone can recommend shade loving spiller I would be ever so greatful.

Those plants look awesome...and you are using my van, tonight. :) We don't have a single thing on the calendar and can lower the back and middle seats, giving you GOBS of room. And it turns on a dime.

I miss your beautiful piano playing. But only if cowboy mix accompanies. :)

Being a Finlinson does have its limitations. Though people no doubt will want to, no one will ever name a university after us.
