this blog is not dead

Technically - this blog is not dead. And technically neither are we. However, we have been so ridiculously busy this past month that I kind of can't think about it. Last night was the first night that we actually have just been "home" all month. Guess what we did to celebrate? Mopped the floor (it was disgusting but now you can pretty much eat off of it) and vacuumed to high heaven. All while watching a few episodes of "Sarah's House" (I wish she would come and design every room in our house).

Forgive the excuses - instead I am just going to brag. At the beginning of 2010 Greg and I made a list of everything in the world we would possibly like to do this year. We haven't accomplished all of it - but a big thing on my list was to increase our food storage AND learn how to rotate it. (It's just never made sense to me to buy a bunch of food and then just have it gather dust and then throw it out five years later - so I just haven't done anything). Anyway . . . this year (thanks to my Vitamix which serves as a wheat grinder and my friend, Pook) I have regularly been making bread (so healthy and so delicious). I have been making it so consistently that I just finished up a 45 bucket of wheat. Score!

Continuing on with my food storage theme - this month we canned 40 quarts of peaches. Thanks to my in-laws that happen to be canning experts - we'll be eating peaches for the next year!
Lest you think this month has been all business - this past weekend I hosted some of the ladies over for a sleepover. We hung doughnuts from a string and they had to try and eat them without their hands. It's always a hit.

You are clearly a domestic queen between the home-ground wheat bread, the canned peaches, and the fun activities for family. And you have lovely hair. Some people get all the breaks.

First of all, this blog may not be dead yet, but it's begging to be put out of its misery. I hope you will find the time to breathe new life into it soon.

Secondly, I don't know what "Sarah's House" is, but it sounds like a movie from the Hallmark channel.

And C) I wish you had that song Peaches playing on your blog for this post. (millions of peaches, peaches for me....)

Todd, are you movin to the country? Gonna eat you a lot of peaches?

I'll admit, Sarah's House confused me as well.

Oh brother - you two both need to watch a lot more HGTV. Sarah's House is based on the premise where Sarah (the star/designer of the show) buys a house and guts it and redecorates and changes the whole thing. Seriously - it's awesome. And Sarah's sidekick, Tommy, reminds me a lot of Toddcat. A lot.

The whole time we canned peaches we listened to that song - over and over and over - it made for a really awesome time.

You are an inspiration.

Well your description of this Tommy character makes him sound quite awesome.

Also, I know that both Lindy and I would like to be invited over for some peach cobbler.

Todd's right--cobbler would be great. We just sit around all day crying because you haven't invited us over for any sort of peach-related treat.

This post is begging for my super super secret recipe! As the former reigning peach queen (if no one is going to let me live it down I might as well live it up ;) so there) I hereby release the original Brigham City Peach Cobbler recipe: (I can't believe I'm doing this on your open blog!) 3/4 Cup packed brown sugar, 1.5 Tablespoons cornstarch, 1/2 Cup water, 1 teaspoon almond extract, 4 cups peeled and sliced fresh peaches, 1 tablespoon lemon juice, 1 tablespoon butter, 1 cup flour, 2 tablespoons sugar, 1.5 teaspoons baking powder, 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/4 cup butter, 1 egg slightly beaten, 1/4 cup milk. Ice cream or whipped topping. (it says optional, but it is most definitely NOT optional.) For filling, in a large saucepan combine brown sugar and cornstarch, Stir in water, Cook and stir until thickened and bubbly, Add almond extract. Stir in peaches, lemon juice, and the 1 tablespoon butter; heat through and keep warm while preparing topping. For topping, stir together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt, Cut in the 1/4 cup butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs, In a separate bowl combine egg and milk: add all at once to flour mixture, stirring just to moisten. Turn hot filling into a greased 1.5 or 2-quart casserole dish. Immediately spoon on topping in 6 mounds. Bake at 400 degrees F. for approximately 20 minutes. Makes 6 servings. Whew!!! If you went to Brigham for their Peach Days celebration and ordered cobbler from the vendor at the car show. This is exactly what you'd get! Sniff! Sniff! I think I'm gonna be homesick! Now you can have Todd and Lindy over for cobbler and not even Todd could say something negative about this dish. Unless Krissi messes it up which is also not possible. She can make wheat bread!...need I say more.
