for the record . . .

In my new job a lot of people think that my name is "Kris." To all those people - it is not. I repeat, I go by "Kris Tina" you don't even have to pronounce it with the space. Calling me "Kris" is not affectionate, not a nickname, and not appropriate - especially, especially, especially when we don't now each other.

When I was younger, a boy from elementary school, Jason Winkle, would tease me and call me "Kris P***" he kind of soured me on the name ever since. Yes, ironic that a boy named Jason WINKLE would influence me so much.

So for the record - call me Kris Tina, call me kt, call me krissi, call me kitty but please please please don't call me Kris.

On a sidenote - Lindy once called me "kris" and I literally got upset - so Lindy, I apologize (again) but you now know where I stand.

Now I love me some nicknames -- just ask my poor four-year-old niece, JoAnn, who has been Banana since approximately Day 1 (shortened, of course, from JoAnna Banana) -- but nicknames only work if (1) you have known the nicknamee for longer than a month and he/she is not your boss; and (2) the nicknamee is okay with the nickname. Otherwise, it's extremely awkward and/or cruel.

Tell them that if they want to shorten your name, you prefer they use your gang name, "T." (Using the word "gang" will scare those Provo-ites into submission. I know. I was one.)

Dearest KT--to this day I feel bad for teasing you by calling you Kris....and then waiting too long to throw on the Tina. Law school makes us all do silly things, and that was one of mine!

Thank goodness that T was listed in comments as your gang name. Now that we're "grown ups" I will try to transition out of the gang name of T to Kris Tina :) (Although, I do kind of live in the ghetto, so maybe I'll stick with T after all)

Oh man! That Jason Winkle! He totally ruined my 7th grade yearbook by getting too many boys to write an entirely inappropriate nickname for me! I managed to block it out of my memory until the mention of his name sent me into a dark corner to rock back and forth and suck my thumb. Just kidding, kind of. Stupid Jason Winkle! I don't really like it when strangers call me Chris, either and it always takes me a minute to get used to the unstrangers calling me Chris. How about your full name like my mom calls you? Is that okay?

Oh the pain the space has caused you. One little space.

The space adds character. Really it does, who else could get away with putting a space in the middle of their name? Sh Ana, no, Gr Eg, uh no!

How about Ch Uck, this is Kt's favorite I know it.

Also, do you think that this blog is going to pop up when Jason Winkle googles his name just like the "other" Ross? That would be awesome. Maybe you should title the post "Jason Winkle"

Kitty, I am embarassed for Lindy for so foolishly crossing boundries she wasn't meant to cross. I think it might be best for everyone if you legally changed you name and removed the space...Kristina.

Abby, let's not go handing out initial nicknames that don't belong to us, OK? "T" is mine and I am not willing to give it up.

I would like to see a VH1 style "Where Are They Now" special on this Jason Winkle character. I think there might be story there worth telling.

I have a theory about Jason Winkle - he mercilessly teased others of their names to try and prevent being teased about his own. Maybe he is on facebook. I'm going to look him up.

Well, now we know! If there was any question, we won't ever be confused about it now!

And so, "Kris Tina", if I have ever errantly called or referenced you as "Kris" mistakenly (which FYI, I don't ever recall... I am actually quite particular with names, even their spelling, especially if unusual... mainly because my own is often misspelled, so I make an extra effort on that front), then please accept this heartfelt apology and promise that I will not ever make that mistake again! :)
