Although Navy Pier is the #1 (or #2 if you ask me. . . and yes pun intended) tourist attraction in all of Chicago - it doesn't thrill me. I find it gaudy, ridiculous and full of things that are really not that interesting. I went on a Ferris Wheel at Lagoon, the swings make me sick, Bubba Gump Restaurant (you might as well go and wait 1.5 hours to eat at Olive Garden)- you know in a pinch fine but not worth the wait. BUT I am married to a man who finds Navy Pier AWESOME and thus as part of my ambition to be the best wife in the world I found myself going to Navy Pier on Saturday night. I can't say it was all that bad - the view from the Ferris wheel was pretty, the fireworks were decent, the cover band playing 80's songs - excellent, the stained glass museum (kind of stupid), the high school choir singing off-key - priceless (I had to throw it in - I just had to), there is also a bathroom where when the door swings in provides a gross peep show for others who are just innocently waiting for their husband (I don't want to talk about it).
All in all not that bad - mix in some good company and a diet coke and it was actually pretty fun . . . provided we don't have to go back for a long, long time.
*UPDATE* if the Toddcat came into town we would definitely go to Navy Pier again - definitely

Not just any 80's cover band - this band played the Safety Dance with Eye of the Tiger in the bridge. It pretty much rocked. The view from the top of that Ferris wheel is also pretty impressive. Oh, and you forgot the AWESOME fireworks.
Whoa. Relive the magic is right -- your description took me back to my own off-key high school choir trips (minus, of course, the peek-a-boo moment outside the men's restroom). Also, I'm not sure you can say that if you've ridden on ferris wheel, you've ridden them all. Farmington is not a bad-looking place, but it's no Chicago in terms of aerial-view aesthetics.
Don't forget the delicious food court cuisine! And when all else fails, the people watching in a big city at a place like Navy Pier is Priceless! Greg even pointed out a few key outfits that left one unable to look away while also in utter shock and horror!
Oh I forgot about that outfit. Mad snaps to her for putting on something like that rather than the muumuu I would have expected.
It sounds like you had a fun Saturday. It helps keep your mind off things when you do something fun like that.
