Almost every morning Ross and I leave for work . . . together. Invariably, the second the door shuts I say, "You have your keys?" and Greg being Greg . . . always does (I sometimes forget and that's my prerogative as Kitty being Kitty). This routine, however, came to a screeching halt this morning when Greg announced that no, he didn't have his keys. He then, (accusingly) stated, "That's why I always leave them on top of the table" but what he wanted to say and really what I heard was, "So if you wouldn't have put them away in the table drawer I wouldn't have forgotten them and we wouldn't be in this predicament. It's all your fault Kitty!" We have been married long enough that we really have started to master this silent communication.
Thankfully, I kept my cool and while waiting for the train we thought of some options: (1) Break in (this, however, would cause Greg to "break the law" and let's face it, he doesn't even go over the speed limit), (2) call a locksmith (who will charge us a jillion dollars), (3) call our former housekeeper who for some reason holds a key (sidenote - she came twice and we decided that we couldn't really tell a "before and after" difference and we didn't like paying for something that we can do for ourselves and do better).
What did we decide? Well crisis averted - I rummaged through my ginormous fake Louis Vuitton/ Dolce & Gabbana bag and wallah - there were my keys. So don't worry. Crisis averted.

This sounds a lot like the leasons my dad used to teach me with the help of his one-armed friend, J. Walter Weatherman.
Seriously, why did you put my keys in the drawer? I have a system!!
I'll admit that I get annoyed when Ryan "cleans up" the papers I always leave out on my desk too. I leave them out so I remember to deal with them. When he cleans them up I don't have a clue what to do.
PHEW! And might I suggest a fake rock or a welcome mat for your front porch? No one will EVER suspect there is a key hidden beneath! :)
One man's system is another woman's clutter. My recollection is that KTC hates clutter -- her law school carrel was always spotless, at least on the surface. Also, may I suggest that you revise your morning routine just slightly and ask Ross whether he has his keys BEFORE you shut the door. I'm just saying.
P.S. For Todd's benefit: I had to delete the previous comment because it contained a GLARING error. This comment is substantively the same and, as far as I can tell, error-free.
I have to say we have thought about the "fake rock" the only problem is that it would look out of place in our enclosed apartment hallway.
Abby, we'd all like to know what that error was.
Hi Greg, remember me? Stadium Terrace? The 4,397th ward or something? I'm still in touch with all the roomies from #9 and we're spread out all over the country (I'm in PA currently). It looks like you left Utah too, got married & are working hard...good for you. I'll have to add your blog to my favorites cause from the little I've seen it's pretty hip & cool. Oh...to be hip or cool again...sigh. Take Care
