We don't watch American Idol. I think part of it has to do with the fact that Ross finds it too trendy and I just don't want to invest my time in it. HOWEVER, due to the fact that the front runner, David Archuleta, goes to my high school (that's right my high school - the school where my siblings and I all graduated from with outstanding honors and accolades) I feel that it is my duty/obligation to chime in. (I am aware of all of this because my family is very much into watching American Idol right now due to the close connection they feel with Mr. Archuleta). Many people have suggested that Mr. Archuleta cannot be as humble or as modest as he appears to be. That this is, in fact, part of his "act" and he knows how good he is and he just plays this false sense of modesty to get more compliments. Well, I am here to tell you, that graduates from Murray High School are born with a sense of modesty and humility and really are just as awesome as they appear to be. There is no getting around it. So . . . sing on Mr. Archuleta (just as long as I don't really have to watch or listen). I hope he makes Madrigals!
I just had to get that off my chest.
*this post is in courier - what do you think?

What is this American Idol thing? Never heard of it. Also, the courier makes it look like it's news. It adds a level of journalistic integrity!
Never been a fan of courier...
For the record, I have never seen an entire episode of American Idol... (I've caught bits and pieces over the years, but am not much of a TV person...) As for Mr. Archuleta, I heard yesterday on the news (radio in my car) that his pre-performance ritual includes a call to his voice-coach and choir teacher from good old MHS for encouragement. He literally calls him just seconds before walking on stage EVERY time he performs on Idol. Supposedly, he really is a sweet, humble, down-to-earth, even a little insecure kid! But what do I know.. I believed the Snoop-Dog hoax!
First, courier is a little off-putting. It's too formal and aloof for blog-posting. I feel like I have some authority to make this comment as almost all of the documents I read/write are done in the courier font and I am not a fan. Times New Roman is so much friendlier.
Second, I would have to agree that if the Carlston family are any indication of the type of students that frequent the halls of MHS, then Mr. Archuleta is surely every bit as awesome as he appears. KTC's pretty awesome and while I only met her family briefly at her wedding reception, I was impressed.
Third, even if Mr. Archuleta is not as nice as he seems, I think we should adopt traditional American naivete and exalt him on a pedestal, lauding his virtues and throwing him at the world as a great role model for young people, until the (probably inevitable) moment that he does something shocking and we spiral into faith-shaking disillusionment. Oh Miley Cyrus, why? why? Sweet, innocent, ultra-materialistic Hannah Montana, where did you go?
sorry. i digress.
I would like to comment on how much I think this season of American Idol sucks. I DO in fact watch American Idol on Tuesdays after I put the Goose to bed and while I do dishes and clean up. It is not good.
Also, while I agree that the Courier adds a level or journalistic integrity, I also think it's too stupid to use on a regular basis.
Also, I cannot survive another week while Jason Castro sings on.
I have to say that the Murray connection definitely helps justify my watching American Idol this year. The reality TV junkie in me just can't stay away- The kid is so stinkin' likeable! I wonder if he will be able to sell a lot of albums- or if America is just in love with a good 'ol Murray boy (it is tough to resist)- we'll see.
After a 7 year (that's right 7) fast from TV, we have pulled out the rabbit ears to watch American Idol every Tuesday AND Wednesday night. I realized there was a serious problem when I brought the speghetti in to eat IN FRONT OF THE TV and got mad at Elise for playing on the computer instead of watching American Idol. That is just one small example of how deep MHS loyalties go. Go David.
BTW you have to think more about your message when you're choosing your font. Courier is definitely not warm and friendly enough for a light hearted entry about Murray's golden boy.
I look forward to watching American Idol, for the fact that David is from Murray and walks the halls of MHS. High School Musical 3 is being taped at East High School, so why can't we have David Archuleta win American Idol. He is definitely good enough. It winner will be anounced on May 21st, I'm glad I'll be back from China by then.
Great, I'm going to have to buy t-shirts for my girls that say "MHS, home of David Archuleta!" to go along with their t-shirts that say "The Original East High School, SLC, Utah!"
I didn't watch AI until this week, when I admittedly left work early on Tuesday AND Wednesday just to see the fellow Spartan for myself. So is Mr. Scott still the MHS music teacher?
I for one am proud to say that I have watched A.I. since season #1. It is fun to cheer on the little Spartan this year. Watch for me when American Idol has the top two contestants go to their hometown to be cheered by all the crazy locals...okay, I probably won't but I am an unabashed fan of the show.
I attribute it to sheer boredom - but I did start watching again this season along with millions of other Stormin Mormons who are determined to keep David in the race....
