Another marketing/advertising snafu
Healthy Choice has come out with a new line of products . . . Cafe Steamers. Who names these things? I mean this is a family blog - but have advertisers never heard of what the street term for "steamers" means? They must live in a bubble. That is the only explanation. I can't decide if this is as bad or worse than the "muffin top" cereal. Also if you have never heard of a "steamer" - email me and I'll help you figure it out.

I don't know what all the hubbub is about, KT, a locomotive engine is commonly referred to as a "steamer." I guess they just don't see the train-food conflict. Many people eat on trains. There are a lot of train dining cars. I had no idea you were so opposed to mixing your food with your transportation.
Ah, yes. This reminds me of when Mr. Mott would bring warm flavored milk from the Creamery to the law library, much to your chagrin...because they too were dubbed "steamers." You explained the definition to me. But I still loved them in spite of the "street term." I think you should write an anonymous letter to Healthy Choice so they can be in the know, though. Maybe they'll send you a whole case of their product for the tip.
Um. I will admit that I am not enlightened and I have no idea why it's problematic to refer to food as steamers. I hope someone will enlighten me soon because my mind is now working overtime to imagine all sorts of horrible things it could refer to.
Wow - I thought "steamers" was well understood. Let's see - to put it delicately, "steamer" is another word for poop!
Oh sick. KTC, I guess you are going to have to write to Healthy Choice. Maybe you should get a job on the Ad Council. Then you could start a crusade to stop this kind of austensibly ignorant pollution of the public.

Also, considering you and Ross bought box after box of Muffin Top cereal I'd have to say it was a pretty successful marketing gimmick. I'm sure you will be enjoying a hot Cafe Steamer before it's all said and done.
Oh silly Toddcat - we are very familiar with Cafe Steamer's because they are sold at Costco. I ate one for lunch this afternoon - hence the inspiring post. It wasn't that great - I can't say that we will be buying them again.
I think this is another Carlston-specific slang term. If you google steamers, there is no reference to grossness at all. Just ships, cooking utensils, and tools for steaming your clothes. In fact the only place I've really herd steaming in context with KT's definition, it was referred to as a steaming pile. Now that is a reference I think we can all accept. Steamers, I just don't know. If it helps, maybe you can always refer to them as Cafe Steamers, rather than just steamers to help relieve your discomfort at the term. Think of steamed dumplings and our vegetable steamer for support.
So what you are saying is that the name did not discourage you from buying (or eating) this product. You might even say you were intrigued by the name and thus purchased a steamer that you might not otherwise have considered trying. You fell right into their trap.
