All About Us

When Ross and I were dating and trying to figure out if we were going to get married or move on we found ourselves in a bit of a predicament because (a) I was living in Chicago and he was living in Utah and (b) Ross is not the best and chit-chatting on the telephone (I am quite talented at doing this). In a desperate attempt to save our relationship I bought this book, "All About Us" which provided us with conversation topics. The book is filled with relationship type questions that are supposed to "aid" two people to help them to get to know each other better. Well, obviously the book saved our relationship. Ross flew out to Chicago and proposed. So . . . with Ross traveling a lot for his job I find myself worried. Let's face it - two years of marriage and we still really haven't overcome the telephone chit-chatting problem. I think I need to invest in "volume two" in an attempt to keep the lines of communication open.

Oh dear. I'm worried that Ross traveling is going to pull you apart at the seams. There is only one solution--you each need to write a list of 7 things to talk about before you get on the phone. These can be current events, things about your day, what your plans are for tomorrow...all appropriate topics. Then, keep your list by the phone. If you run into a lull in conversation, then go to the next item on your list. Right before you go to bed, look at the list and what you've crossed off. Then write some new topics to get you back up to seven new things to talk about. You can do it!

Good thinking Lindy. Since Ross is busy traveling I'll take the liberty of listing the 7 things we all know he would want to talk about:

1) Sandwiches
2) Legos
3) Robots
4) architecture
5) Star Wars
6) Nixon
7) how nice it is to travel and drive a (rental) car that actually works.

This list should get things going. You could talk or not talk for hours and still have things to not talk about.

I applaud Toddcat's dedication to your marriage. With some hard work, skill, and luck you can make it to four years like me and Ryan.

welcome to my life. when tyson and i were dating long distance for a year we started having "phone dates" where we would meet up at a certain time on the intranet and play online checkers or something. it was fun.

So to repost the comment Kitty says she "accidentally" deleted....

To be fair I have decided to post a list for Kitty's discussion topics of choice:

1) Match Game
2) made-for-TV movies starring Meredith Baxter Birney
3) knitting
4) naps
5) ways to make your husband do ALL the driving
6) Murder, She Wrote
7) her favorite Chili's appetizer: the Awesome Blossom (heavy on the awesome!)

If these facinating topics can't fill the awkward silences and save your troubled marriage I don't know what will.

I find your comments just as entertaining as the posts, you have some funny friends.

Meg, could you please be more specific? Whose comments, exactly, do you find the funniest??

Meg- I was worried that your comment would leave someone (we all know the anonymous comment is the Toddcat) full of himself and it appears that it has.

Kitty, you are so rude. We don't know who left that anonymous comment...and now I guess we'll never know. No one is going to step forward knowing that you are going to be all judgy.

I simply meant the comments as a whole were funny, the funny comments back and forth, the teasing...not one specific person. Didn't mean to disrupt the flow. I'm looking forward to future funny comments.

Meg, I'm sorry that Kitty scared you with her rudness. Kitty can be so catty sometimes. I think we all know who the best commentor is so there is no need to name names.

I love your blog spot - it's one of the only ones that I read. I have to admit, though, that I just figured out what CarlKleff means. At first I thought they were little nicknames you had for each other. I guess hanging out with a 2 year old is not making me any smarter.......

I really need to break away from the Google Reader and visit this site more often, I am missing out on all the comments. Also.. Kitty where in the world did you pick up all these extra friends? I was pretty sure that becoming friends with Todd had scared all other prospects away.

I am way to intimidated by the witty remarks to comment too often, but I have to say--in the blogging world this seems to be the place to be. Who are all these people anyway Krissi? It is kind of like you have your own column now.

T-
I have to say that I feel unworthy to have your link on my page - but that's the quickest way to get here so I'm not going to change it. Anyway, Tom told me that he feels we don't talk anymore about things other than "business" so I am actually thinking of getting this book!!!
