Ross' Reading Round-up

It cost us about $3.00 in late fees this past month, but even at that the public library is a deal. So maybe we keep books a little too long. It wouldn't happen if CPL would get off their duffs and finally roll out their alleged new computer system. The kind that would allow us to renew online. I think they are delaying it purposely to get more fine money, but that's for another post. The point is that I have recently finished two books:

My Reality Check Bounced! by Jason Ryan Dorsey. I heard this guy on the the radio a while back and put it in the back of my mind to check out. It has some good tips about how to get out there and go for it. He gives a lot of advice for starting out, networking, and just fitting in to the world of work - kind of like a Never Eat Alone lite. I would say it's interesting, but something you can skim. Pick out the chapters that seem interesting like how to run a meeting effectively or thinking of yourself in terms of a product. Those are the sections I found most valuable.

The Success Principles: How to get from where you are to where you want to be, by Jack Canfield. Yes the same Jack that brought us Chicken Soup for the Soul (no link - I just can't support that). I first heard this on audio book and thought I would get the unabridged book. I can safely say that the audio was better. There are great ideas in the book, but it kind of gets lost in all the fluff. So my recommendation would be to either try it on tape, or read the first few chapters and skim the rest. That said, the first part is great and really got me thinking of how we are truly agents in life. Meaning that we are free to choose (to win or lose) a lot of what goes on. If we don't like it, then do something about it. I like that attitude. He explains it much better than I.

So that's the round-up. Next up will be a collection of essays on the life of Joseph Smith. I'll keep you posted.

I think that "Ross' Reading Round-up" should be the name of his new TV show. He does need a new job right? It could be like "Reading Rainbow" only way more awesome

I totally agree. Ross, you should be reviewing books on TV. I would have to suggest you select some more exciting books, though. As you know, I like to read teen lit.

I hate to say it but watching Ross reviewing books on tv would be like watching grass grow. And Todd you make an excellent point--more exciting books would help and no, Ross, I don't mean sci-fi books.
