For the 4th of July celebration, we decided to head to Grant Park to see the Chicago fireworks display in all its glory. We biked it of course as can be seen by our awesome bike helmets. Once there we wandered around the park trying to find a good place to sit. Lets just say that half of Chicago’s millions were in that one park with us. We didn’t find one and ended up sitting on the blacktop. We did observe an excellent example of the afore mentioned muffin-top walking by, but were unable to get a picture because the flash would have tipped them off. The fireworks were okay, but the best part of the whole thing was being able to bike home and making it there 15 minutes after the show stopped. We both missed Stadium of Fire and wondered why the so-called Freedom Committee is so derelict in its duty by not getting Neil Diamond to rock Edwards stadium. Freedom means Coming to America – everyone knows that.
On the actual 4th we headed to a Sox game with Adam and Shana on a family pack that gave us these delicious hotdogs. Like a slice of America. The Sox had the good sense to not only have a fireworks show, but rock Coming to America during the show. Neil Diamond is the 4th of July. We were also amazed by all the private fireworks shows all over the city. Very impressive.
On Saturday we got to work the Taste of Chicago. I mean work in the sense that we got paid to go and check on the beverage stands to make sure they had people checking ids and were disposing of the tickets properly. Hot, hot, hot. We had a good time mingling with the rest of the city that we didn’t meet on the fireworks night. Laurie came with us and we enjoyed a taste of many foods. Kris Tina mostly just liked the watermelon as shown below.
She does love watermelon. Of course anyone would love tasty watermelon in the heat that we had on Saturday. Notice the new sun hat purchased just for the occasion.
Coming soon . . . . painting updates . . . .

Congratulations on a safe and successful 4th of July week! There is nothing more American than an evening of hot dogs, Neil Diamond, and baseball.
Wow, that's a lot of celebrating you did. Kitty, your biking reminds me of the time I visited you in Chicago during your summer intership when we spent a beautiful afternoon rollerblading in the park. As I recall, you whined the entire time about the heat and how tired you were. I was a good friend to put up with that and patiently wait for you to catch up.
Oh poor Todd---I'll let you believe that that is how the weekend was but I think me and Bobby Flay know the truth---you were so out of shape you had to stop on every park bench!
Well, you have your version of the weekend and I have mine. No one will believe your preposterous allegations. No one!
Also, what was Jackie-O doing at Taste of Chicago eating watermelon?
