i love . . . day 10

I love our family budget. I know totally weird. What's worse is that we have been married 4+ years and this is the first time we've had an actual budget . . . it was always because of me. I used to think that budgeting = poor. And that budgeting means that I can't go out and buy anything I want to when I want it. Oh I guess it does mean that. But actually . . . it's great.

Each month Greg will go and cash out the money we have set aside for groceries/entertainment/eating out/mad money. We then live off of that. Sure we look ridiculous carrying this expandable envelope around . . . but it works. However, we are always out of restaurant money by the end of the month. Always. Oh and also - we have a line item for "yarn." That's right. Ridiculous.

And because I like all my blog entries to have a picture of some sort - I'm posting a picture of Greg in my dad's Santa Clause sweater. It's just ridiculous. That's why. Besides who wants to look at a picture of a budget?

Are you sure that Ross didn't buy that sweater because it was the only thing he could afford on his modest clothing budget?

Dr. Pepper also has its own line item. Delicious.

We once had Greg borrow that sweater for an ugly sweater contest . . . my dad was insulted - and I guess rightfully he should be. The handcrafting on that thing is amazing.

Yarn, restaurants, Dr. Pepper....I'm already seeing a lot of fat that can be trimmed from this budget.

I need that yarn line item - how else am I supposed to make those gifts for all those people that won my Oprah giveaway? Yarn doesn't grow on trees, you know. -

Yarn also doens't seem to get converted into those gifts so I have to wonder what you are doing with it.

I read you blog pretty faithfully and I am always entertained but I have to be honest, I am just as excited to read anything that ToddCat responds with. I could just read the two of you banter back and forth all day and split my side while I'm at it. who is this ToddCat and do they have a funny blog too?

Dear "Josh and Erika Thorne Family",
Thank you for your comment which you felt so strongly about that you had to post it twice. It's always nice to hear feedback from one of my many, many fans. I do indeed have a blog of my very own- http://catboxmeow.blogspot.com/
, however, I gave up posting a while back to focus all my energy on commenting on other people's blogs. Your question made me take a look back which made me realize something: "hey, my blog is pretty awesome. Should I really be depriving people of my cyber-awesomeness?" I'm going to let you take a look for yourself and then you can let me know if The Catbox should be revived.

hey! we do this too! we save like a zillion dollars a month when we're doing it. however, all the cash stays at home. and we ALWAYS have no grocery money at the end of the day. ALWAYS.

The Goose just came over and asked me the name of that boy. Then she preceded to say, "Santa and Gweg!"
