Not the clothing line - I'm talking about the hit movie from 1986 starring Kevin Bacon, Paul Rodriguez, Jami Gertz and Laurence Fishburne as "Voodoo." Quicksilver can best be described as Wall Street meets Rad - but with more Bacon. There is some serious camp factor - enough to get you through it.
Bacon plays Jack Casey, a young futures trader who has set all kinds of records. We know he is "all business" because he has a mustache and wears his hair slicked back and a double-breasted suit. When he loses everything, he has to tell his dad that the family savings is gone. This sends Jack into a funk. We know this because he shaved his mustache and wanders around NY with normal Bacon '80s hair and just the suit coat over casual clothes. His salvation comes when he passes a thrift store and sees a bike. Here is the chance to do a job that will not ruin anybody's finances but his own.
He starts working for a messenger service that looks like it's out of Newsies. A whole bunch of stuff happens like a bike race-off between him and Voodoo, drug dealers using messengers to deliver their product (is this the conflict?), the dream of owning a hot dog vending cart, a liar-face love interest co-worker (should be the conflict), and a final chase scene between "the Gypsy," the drug dealer in a Ford LTD and Bacon on his bike. None of this really matters because the plot is worthless. The point is that there is an AWESOME dance duet between Bacon, who is on his bike, and his girlfriend who dances ballet. I have a clip:
If that is not awesome, I don't know what is. Now we know where Rad got it's sweet dance scene. Bacon actually does a great job of acting in the movie. Then there is everybody else, who's acting is about on par with what passes for acting on the Disney Channel. That's were it get's campy. The plot just has to be forgotten to get through. We have no reason to care about the characters due to the crazy plot, and even the setting is crazy. I kept seeing these San Francisco hills they were riding on, but it is set in NY. Turns out they filmed part of it in San Francisco and LA, but just told us it was New York. Not sneaky.
So, if you are looking for a movie that you don't have to think about, but that would be hilarious for all the wrong reasons - you could do worse. Also, it did make me want to go ride my bike, and I guess that is worth something.

I'll admit I was laughing out loud. Unfortunatley, I managed to watch Wild Things many years ago, and it's hard to get THAT Kevin Bacon out of my head, even when I'm watching those sweet moves.
That was like watching an amaizing performance by Cirque du Soleil.
